My name is Scott Lindquist and I am a new member. Like most of you, I am a Progressive Christian and a member of Unity. My wife is a minister at Unity of Gainesville church in Gainesville, GA. I am a writer and author of several non-fiction books about rape prevention, but my latest book is a spiritual novel called: The Jesus Factory. If you’d like more information on the book, you can go to my website: www.thejesusfactory.com
For years I and many like me in Unity, have been on a similar spiritual journey. We didn’t exactly fit in with mainstream evangelical folks, in fact we often identified ourselves as First Century Christians, when believers were more open to various thoughts and points of view – before the church doctrines and creeds separated them. I guess I can definitely identify with the SBNR (Spiritual But Not Religious) group, of which I recently learned that over 60 million Americans also identify themselves as SBNR. When I wrote my book, I was amazed to learn that there are; according to David Barrett et al, editors of the “World Christian Encyclopedia: A comparative survey of churches and religions – AD 30 to 2200,” there are 34,000 separate Christian groups. So, when folks question my faith and tell me that I’m not a Christian, or I pray to the wrong Jesus, I remind them that there are over 30,000 Christian denominations, and perhaps you are just speaking for one.
